Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS), the highest level of certification by the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS). In order to do so they
must complete two additional

CEC 15-week sessions to meet these requirements.  The requirements for both additional sessions will entail supervision for one hour three times a
an additional 532 hours of on-site experience each session.  They will also need to show proof of 50 hours of personal counseling during these two
additional sessions to meet certification requirements.

Additionally, the College would offer the non-credit courses required for the three levels of certification to become Traumatic Stress Specialists. In
addition to these three levels of certification, the College would also offer courses for attainment of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD)
certification.  All four certifications require 30 hours of continuing education for recertification every three years, another series of workshops the College
can offer.  The requirements for these levels of certification are explained below.

To receive the highest level of certification, Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists Certification (ATSS), upon completion of the student’s MPA
degree program the following will have to be added:
•        Field placement that includes 2,000 hours of trauma counseling and intervention.  This placement with the Constructive Action serves as the
Purpose course.
•        Fifty hours of personal counseling
•        Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS) sponsor and completed application with sponsor’s signature
•        Three one-hour supervisory sessions per month by the MPA faculty
The level of certification they receive is the Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS).  This designation is created for specialists who provide intervention for
trauma.

There are two lower levels of certification. The first of these two lower levels is the Certified Trauma Responder (CTR).  This designation is for those
who provide immediate trauma intervention through critical incident stress debriefing/management, peer counseling, and trauma response. The
certification requires the following:
•        One year experience in a trauma-related area
•        Forty hours on a crisis incident response team
•        Associate degree or high school diploma with successful completion of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) training or two years experience
in trauma response
•        Thirty-two hours specified courses
•        Forty hours advanced disaster or trauma response training
•        CTS sponsor and completed application with sponsor’s signature

The second of the two lower levels is the Certified Trauma Specialist (CTSS).  This designation is for those who provide immediate trauma intervention,
crisis support, advocacy, or victim assistance.  The certification requires the following:
•        One year experience in a trauma-related field
•        Associate degree or high school diploma with successful completion of public safety, victim services or crisis response training
•        Thirty-two hours specified courses
•        Forty hours of ATSS recognized elective course work
•        CTS sponsor and completed application with sponsor’s signature
This certification can easily be turned into a full associate degree in public administration or it can be left as a certification course we offer outside the
degree programs.
Because all three certifications require 30 hours of continuing education for re-certification every three years, a Continuing Education Certificate (CEC)
Institute in Trauma Studies can be created in line with this program.

As the second level of certification, the Certified Trauma Responder (CTR) can also demonstrate competency by completion of the Critical Incident
Stress Debriefing (CISD) training, an additional program in the CEC Institute for Trauma Studies that can be offered.  The CISD is a three-day
workshop.
